Is it that time already?

Friday night Mercedez asked to speak with us privately. She wanted to know if she could ride to Jackson with a friend (a friend who is a boy) to watch the friends little brother play baseball, then ride back and eat dinner with the friends family.

I wanted to say NOPE, not old enough! lol:) I look at her and see this sweet school girl:

Forget that I know the boy's parents (and like them), it isn't what matters! But, my little girl is just a couple of months from 16, a couple of months from big responsibilities and I don't mind "testing grounds" of my choosing. I told her to have his momma call me, and she did, and we talked and Mercedez went with her friend who-is-a-boy-but-not-a-boyfriend. He got out and spoke to Scott and I when he picked her up, they buckled up. She was home early, had lots of fun and actually had a little girl who goes to church with us sit in her lap through most of the game:)

I am not ready for this, but I am smart enough to know that we start out very small and we earn the privilege through showing mom and dad you are responsible.

In a funny (not so funny) I sat with Mercedez asking Jacob about the boy by text...we texted a long time before he said, "y do u need to know this?" After explaining he laughed and said, "lol..let the pro investigate". Mercedez laughed with me, but she also understood that we are not naive.

In the words of Caleb as he talked to her right before she left, "Buckle up and stay that way!" :) Big brothers are definitely a plus when raising girls!!
