As with all things there is a flip side. A poor use of technology. We can all name a dozen "bad" things that technology brings too. Today I was told about a site on the Internet about our little town....I searched via google (seriously doubting the validity of this information), but sadly I was proved wrong. It's there. On-line slander. A site for gossip. Gossipers who don't even have to be named...a sneaky, spiteful, hateful, ugly place for people to go and pick and poke and SIN.
In this world perhaps one of the hardest things to maintain is moderation, temperance. I love technology as much as the next person. I like my computer. I like my cell phone. I even like my TV. But there is moderation with all three. Through the school year that TV I enjoy will be turned off from Sunday night until Friday night. My cell phone does not go into church with me and I do not answer it while we are eating at the table (we don't answer the wall phone during dinner time either). My computer is a powerful tool, but time here should be limited.
Sadly all the things we enjoy can be used for bad means too. Guarding our family, our children and our very hearts is a serious need.
So instead of ending this with sadness and woe (good grief there is plenty of that!) I am adding this picture:
I am ever grateful for my car (also technology) that allows me to travel quickly to the places I need to be. I am also so thankful for the books above. I am thankful for the technology that allows me and my children to ride in the car and listen to a book. SO MUCH better than music, it keeps the brain thinking and alert and I love so very much hearing their laughter and snickers at comments made. A joy. We have enjoyed Lemony Snicket, did you know you can even download these books to your ipod and listen to them? You can rent book that way too. I loved the Wall and the Wing (although for older readers/listeners). This book is listed among the "quirkiest books" which means it made for fun listening:) This week while traveling the little boys and I listened to Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters (book two in the series). Seth grew tired of it, but it was a perfect match for Ryan and Daniel (both 11) and for me (I just love books however they come!!). My most treasured find was the entire set of CS Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia. $29.00 at Hastings:) Ninteen hours of reading/listening awaits!
Technology is a wondrous thing....whether it is good or evil? Our choice!
